Are you getting upset at the thought of your groom’s stag do? You’ve seen the movies so you know that many stag dos feature male silliness, humiliation and worst of all, the risk that the groom will be abandoned in a remote location and be unable to arrive in time for the wedding. We’re not saying that’s never happened, but it’s the exception rather than the norm. The excesses shown in Bachelor Party and Hangover are not to everyone’s taste and the chances are your groom might want something tamer. How do you make sure that the stag do won’t make you want to get a divorce before you even get married? It’s all about communication.
What’s on the Agenda?
It used to be common for grooms not even to know what would happen on their stag night, leaving arrangements in the hands of a few trusted friends. These days, though, many grooms set some ground rules for what is and is not acceptable. Let’s face it, he loves you, so he’s not going to want to do anything that will really make you blow a gasket. If there are any deal breakers for you, share them well in advance so he knows what to avoid. Seeing a stripper, yes; sleeping with a stripper, no!
Communicate and Share
At the same time, it IS his occasion, so try not to take over. Instead, show him the kind of behaviour you want him to display. That means discussing aspects of your hen night with him and getting his input. If he feels involved in your blowout, he’s much more likely to involve you in his. A word of warning, though; you’re supposed to have a relationship of trust, aren’t you, so make sure it’s clear that you trust him.
Another way to get some inside intel is to hang out with some of his friends. If in the past wild horses haven’t been able to drag you to a night at the pub with them, change your mind and get to know them. Maybe they aren’t quite as wild as you imagine - after all, they ARE his friends. Believe it or not, some guys would rather have a couple of drinks and talk about football than ogle a stripper jumping out of a cake. In fact, who knows? Perhaps you might decide on a combined do where you can both let your hair down before the big day.Citations:
