Why Wearing Glasses Shouldn’t Lower Your Confidence

We all have something that we don’t like about ourselves; from freckles and birth marks to hair color and other appearance elements we sometimes wish we could change.

It’s a natural feeling and so common in many of us as humans, and the extremes lead us to surgery and alteration of our appearance. Many of these appearance factors we wish we could change stem from health and wellness problems: such as the need to wear glasses.

So why should we ignore these human tendencies and instead embrace wearing glasses if we need them?

Express yourself with fashion

Spectacles are an ideal outlet through which we can show off our personality and likes and dislikes.

Take these Marc Jacobs MJ381 glasses for example. Their bow design on the arm and warm raspberry pink colourway exude femininity and will give off the impression that you’re a fun and friendly character with oodles of style! (Marc Jacobs MJ 381 RRP £220/$355)

Glasses can be subtle too

There are some interesting designs available in the world of spectacles, but if you’re not wanting to draw attention to your eyes you can opt for rimless glasses or semi-rimmed glasses for a barely there look and feel.

These Tag Heuer glasses are rimless for a minimal look whilst maintaining your need for glasses. The bendy arms in matte black will blend with dark hair and the medium-sized rectangular frames aren’t too imposing on your face. (Tag Heuer Reflex 2 3743 RRP £290/$470)

Embrace your differences

Everyone has an aspect about themselves that they don’t like; but the key is dealing with it in a way that makes you feel more comfortable. Feeling good about yourself can make you feel incredible and you needn’t worry about what people think about you; chances are they too have something they wish they could change about themselves.

Whether you’re looking to let your personality shine through with a pair of noticeable glasses or simple buy glasses that are subtle and intended to solely fit the purpose of providing you with a vision aid, there are a million options for your glasses needs. The main pint is that you feel comfortable in what you wear and don’t feel negative about the fact that you need glasses. Some of the world’s top models and celebrities wear glasses – some even solely for fashion use!

How to Give Yourself a Perfect DIY Facial

DIY Facial

How is your skin looking? Is it a bit dull or congested in appearance? Has your skin been breaking out with acne more often lately and you have an important event in the near future? It’s time to try facial treatments at home. When done correctly, facials can effectively address the specific issues plaguing your skin. Whether you are concerned with dryness, acne, aging, dullness, excessive oil production, etc., facials can help you achieve the skin you want. It is not always possible, however, to get a facial in a spa. Whether you are short on time or money, it’s simply not a feasible option every time you are in need of a little extra care for your skin. Fortunately, it is possible to recreate the facial experience at home. We’ve created an easy, five-step set of instructions to help you have a facial treatment at home—the correct way.

Ancient Beauty Tips

Wearing make up for beauty, and even practicality, isn’t a new idea. Ancient civilisation explored a variety of ways to enhance their looks that were inventive and occasionally fatal. If you were looking for a crash course in the make up of ancient civilisations, here are a few pointers. But I suggest you really, really don’t try some of these at home. Or anywhere else!

Foundation

A good foundation should provide a perfect colour blend with your face. At least, those are the rules now. Even a darker tint is preferable to achieve a healthier tone for pale skin. Not so for the Ancient Greeks. For them, paler skin was far more desirable than their natural dark Mediterranean looks. Go figure.

In around 200 BC, women would apply a face-covering foundation to lighten the skin. Using a powder made from white lead and chalk, the skin would become fashionably pale. Unfortunately the lead would make the wearer unfashionably scarred or dead. The price you pay to be in vogue in Ancient Greece! The Romans too favoured this method of making the skin paler, using a cream made of tin oxide, animal fat and starch; a horrible mix to apply to the skin, particularly as tin oxide is an irritant.

Eyes

Lets turn our attention to the eyes, and the application of eye liner and eye shadow. We’re not so different as our ancestors in the way that we focus a lot of attention toward the eyes. The Egyptians were masters of the dramatic eye make up, which can still be seen on tombs and papyrus scrolls that have been saved for posterity. So if you want to get those Egyptian eyes, what will you need?

Kohl is a thick, black paint that is made from powered crystal known as galena. It was turned into a paste that could be painted around the eye, which also served to keep eyes protected from the glare of the sun. Ancient Egyptians also made eye shadow too, which had a green colour because of the use of malachite powder, applied with the fingers or using wood or small bones.

Lips

For our lipstick, we shall turn to Feudal Japan, and the red pigment beni, which was originally called carthamin. Remarkably, this pigment is still used today, making it one of the longest surviving ingredients for cosmetics in the world. This rich, red tone would be worn by Japanese Kabuki performers and Geisha, creating a look that is famous across the globe.

Beni is derived from the herbaceous safflower, which is cultivated primarily for its oil. The surprising thing about drawing red pigment from safflower is that it is predominately yellow. Only a tiny fraction of the pigment drawn from it is red, making it a rare ingredient. The attraction to it is understandable, however, as the make offers a effervescent shine.
