Lose Weight without Going to the Gym

Many people share a common goal around the first of the year- to shed unwanted pounds. Not everyone, however, is able to keep up with this goal. Some professional gyms have outrageous membership fees, and most people believe gyms to be the only possibly way to lose weight.

The ability to lose weight involves more than going to the gym. Keeping a healthy diet and busy lifestyle can help keep those unwanted pounds away from the midsection. Discipline and patience are free methods of losing weight compared to those costly membership fees.

Do What Pleases the Body

When a weight loss goal and the gym are combined there is usually a combination of boring exercises. The easiest thing anyone can do at the gym is swim, walk around the track, or workout on the machines. These methods never really work because everyone does not have the same internal motivation.

Pick an activity that puts a smile on one’s face. Most weight loss goals are acquired by going out and doing an activity that is enjoyable. Some find success with dancing, jump roping, or playing with their children’s hula hoops.

The Best Habit to Keep

One thing about gym memberships is the ball-and-chain feeling. The exercises end up feeling like chores which will, in turn, make the person less interested due to the monotony.

By thinking of exercising as more of a habit, the mind will focus more on making sure it gets done so there is no wondering, “What did I forget to do today?” It has also been proven that if one can keep doing something for 2 weeks, the body and mind then turns the activity into a habit.

Make a Date of It

Gyms require working out with complete strangers. This is the main turn off to people staying on their diets. Get friends and family members involved, then it can be thought of a “play date.” Not only can this be done outside of a gym; but by doing activities with friends, one can mark “socializing” off of their to-do list (especially if paired with shopping).

Positive Choices

Instead of spending money on gym memberships and the gas to get there, walk around the block. Not only is it free, the body will be continually moving and burning calories. When the body says it is thirsty reach for a glass of water instead of a Coke.

Small changes in one’s everyday habits will make a big difference when trying to lose weight. Start out small, and then work to the bigger issues so the rewards will be seen as escalating.

Supplements

While many people think they are healthy, they may be missing some important nutrients. When these nutrients are not in the body the person feels the need to eat more. By staying properly balanced with the right nutrients, the diet that is currently being used will be more balanced and filling. No mindless eating.

It is very much possible to keep up with one’s New Year’s resolutions without stepping foot into a gym. There are plenty of free activities to keep a dieter busy while helping shed those unwanted pounds. To find them, it just takes a little bit of effort and willpower to keep the routine going steady.
